It’s a cuteness overload at Boston-area zoos this season. 

Franklin Park Zoo in Boston not too long ago welcomed two scaly-sided merganser ducklings, whereas Stone Zoo in Stoneham is now residence to a prehensile-tailed porcupette based on Zoo New England.

The scaly-sided merganser ducklings arrived within the spring and weigh only a quarter of a pound every. The fluffy-looking ducklings are members of an endangered species, so they’re being hand-reared in a brooder barn till they’re sufficiently old to maneuver into the Kids’s Zoo Aviary. 

In accordance with Dr. Brianne Phillips, Zoo New England affiliate veterinarian, each ducklings are, “shiny, alert, energetic, and consuming effectively — which is all very encouraging and thrilling for this uncommon species.” 

The Stone Zoo, in the meantime, welcomed the pint-sized porcupette on Could 23. The reddish-brown ball of fluff is the second offspring for folks Prickles and Shadow. Weighing simply over a pound, the porcupette can often be noticed lounging on perches throughout the exhibit, based on the zoo.
